IDWeek: onsite digital daily newspaper, email newsletter, pre- & post-con print issues
One big question during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic was: “How will virtual conferences generate sponsorship dollars?” IDWeek Daily News, a digital-only newspaper and its corresponding email newsletter, was an instant hit with exhibitors–more than 75% of the advertising opportunities were sold in the first 30 days of the sales cycle. The publication showcases conference content, speaker interviews and society news. After two years as a virtual-only meeting, the digital publications will continue when IDWeek is held in Washington, D.C. this fall. We’ve also added two print issues, delivering conference news and advertiser messages directly to the industry’s target audience. In addition to our digital distribution efforts, this year’s program will also include a QR code that directs attendees to the IDWeek Daily News webpage, reminding them about the publication.
AACC: onsite print show dailies
Having worked with CustomNEWS since 2015, when the AACC Scientific Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo returned in September 2021, the organization did not hesitate to bring back its show daily, the CLN Daily. The same business model was used as in past years, with a robust distribution scenario at conference hotels and expanded digital coverage. Content from each day’s issue is showcased on the conference website and shared by an email newsletter that also generates additional advertising revenue.
PLA: one print/digital onsite show daily; two digital-only show daily issues; post-con digital highlights issue
Seeking to reduce but not eliminate onsite print publications, PLA Daily News returned to the PLA 2022 conference as a hybrid publication. The first issue was printed overnight as a traditional show daily, including the conference program and exhibitor list/floor plan, along with session coverage. The next two issues were then produced using a html-based digital publication software that was shared via email and social media.
AACN: pre-printed onsite show daily with expanded digital versions
Returning to live events after a two-year absence can be daunting. AACN did not want to discontinue their onsite show daily, but sought alternatives to the traditional “overnight printing” concept. The solution was to preprint three issues and add a QR code to page one. Scanning the QR code would take readers to an expanded digital version of that day’s issue, with onsite session coverage, conference photos and much more.
